Early Years Foundation Stage

Children are defined as having reached a good level of development at the end of the EYFS in the reception year if they have achieved at least the expected level for the ELGs in:

  • the prime areas of learning - personal, social and emotional development; physical development; and communication and language;
  • the specific areas of mathematics and literacy.

68.9% of pupils at Hilltop attained the Good Level of Development in 2017.

Key Stage 1

The Year 1 phonics screening check is a way for teachers to ensure that children are making sufficient progress in their phonics knowledge and can apply the skill in reading words.  Effective mastery of this early skill will support children to become fluent readers who can enjoy reading for pleasure and for learning.

91.7% of pupils at Hilltop attained the threshold score in the phonics Screening in 2017.

End of Key Stage 1 Teacher Assessment

Teachers base their end of year judgements on a broad range of evidence from day-to-day class work and the end of year SATs assessments in Reading and Maths.
