We use the Kapow planning with topics covering roughly a half term. This is the only Foundation Subject taught in specific year groups rather than in a rolling 2 year topic programme. This decision was made in consultation with Kapow as the progression of concepts makes it difficult to teach the same topic to pupils of different ages with different prior knowledge. Computing lessons are taught to half classes even in non-mixed classes which also allows for a higher level of adult support and more opportunities for pupils’ individual oral participation and hands on access to hardware.
