Important Update - March 2026

Following declining uptake of nursery spaces at Hilltop over the last two years, the governors and school leadership are faced with the difficult decision of whether we can continue to absorb the running costs of a nursery that is not full. As a result, we are sadly proposing that the nursery class at Hilltop First School will close from September 2026. The local authority has agreed that a public consultation is the next step.

The consultation gives local parents and carers the opportunity to say whether they are considering a nursery place at Hilltop First School in the future. If there is significant interest, then the nursery class may not need to close in September. However, if after the end of this consultation, the proposal is approved, parents who were hoping to place their children in Foxglove class from September, will need to make alternative arrangements.

Applications for Foundation Stage 1 (Nursery) places:

Admission to the Hilltop Foundation Stage 1 (FS1 / Nursery) class is dealt with by the school admin team.  A Registration of Interest form can be downloaded from this page or obtained by contacting the school office.  Please complete the form and returned it to us with a copy of the child’s birth certificate. Children who are offered a place will normally start school at the beginning of the academic year in which they turn 4.  Places in FS1 are offered in accordance with the Foundation Stage Admission Criteria.  Please see our Nursery Admissions Policy.

* Currently we can offer a morning or all day place for children turning 4 this academic year. Children who turn 3 this academic year can be offered an afternoon place, the term after they turn 3. We also offer a lunch club*
